SUMO WRESTLING

Practice A Sport With A History Over 2000 Years

Sumo is one of the oldest continuously practiced sports, stretching back over 2000 years, with over 30 national federations across Europe alone.

We are a club under the British Sumo Federation, and we practice using many of the traditional methods employed by professional Sumo wrestlers in Japan.

Training sessions - called keiko - include technique and tactical practice, and a large amount of sparring against members of different weight classes to develop ability in a range of match types.

Sumo is a very simple sport to learn because there are no complex rules - simply push your opponent out of the ring or down to the ground to win!

About The Club

Inoshishi Beya (The Hall Of Wild Boar) Sumo was founded in 2023 by Rob ÓNéill under the British Sumo Federation.

The club trains frequently throughout the year, as well as sending representatives to competitions within the UK and abroad.

The club has members from a wide range of ages and backgrounds, as well as a number of female members, and whether you are interested in competing at any level, or just want to try Sumo to learn a new sport, have fun, and get fitter, there's a place for you at the club.

Rob, and assistant coach George, have a broad background in grappling skills ranging from Japanese Jujutsu, Judo, Freestyle Wrestling and MMA-based grappling and apply this experience to the traditional training employed by the club which mirrors the training of professional rikishi in Japan.
